So today we had our first class. It was about the natural history of Costa Rica, and we learned all about how Costa Rica was formed by plate tectonics millions of years ago and why they have so much biodiversity compared to the small size of their country. Tonight we have 28 pages to read for tomorrows four lectures about the consequences the economic, and political systems had on Costa Rica's environment. I have found the readings to be very difficult, and I find myself having to read the same sentance over a few times to understand what they are trying to say. It took me about an hour and a half to read 8 pages! Most of the people here are environmental studies majors, and I think becasue I am a biology major, it makes it a little harder for me to understand these types of things. And melissa don't stress out about this..ill be fine.
Thank you for all of your comments, they make things seem a lot closer to home than they really are! Love you and Miss you...Alyson

Lost my original posting, so will try again. Cant seem to hold back my tears as i'm catching up on your blog...You truely have your uncle mike's and your sister, jessica's (though i'm gonna have to throw TJ in there now)gift of expressing yourself and putting it down in the words you write. I am so proud of you, honey. So many life experience's my career could have given me, that i never took advantage of...not sure i would have been able to handle it as well as you are, though i know you must have your moments. you are in my every thought and prayer. Stay safe and stay strong. Dont talk to strangers.. If your communication with home gets to be too difficult, you just let me know. I'll have that global phone sent to you ASAP!!!
ReplyDeletelove you

Hi Honey! Sure is dreary here today...rain, rain, rain. In fact I thought of you right away and the ten day forcast I saw for Costa Rica. Sure hope that is not true...like when we were in Kiawah and everyone at home thought it was yucky but in reality it was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, on a short break trying to get clothes rotated in the wash and thinking of what to have for dinner. I saw Fr. Helman yesterday and today...he is truly a brave man and is holding his own. Pleasse keep him in your prayers. LOVE YOU!!
