Monteverde
Since I couldnt post yesterday becasue of our field trip, I will post my journal entry from yesterday instead...."And we are off! On our way to Monteverde all 19 of us packed into the big SFS bus. I brought my re-written notes to study for the 3.5 hour bus ride, but I cannot seem to pull myself away from looking at the beauty that surrounds me. I feel as though I need to surrender myself to the beauty here, disregard my trivial worries, and take in each moment as it comes. When I look out the window, all I see is a panorama of beautiful mountains decorated with green trees and white clouds hovering right over top. It is a sight I wish I could teleport right home so everyone could enjoy such breath-taking views. Another point I have observed while here are the laws that are rarley obeyed or even enforced. I have noticed that stop signs are merley more of a suggestion then an imposed law, becasue pedestrians do not have the right of way, people crossing the street are literally targets to hit rather than obstacles to watch out for, and lastly, the double yellow lines in the middle of the road serve as nothing more than decoration, for all that is needed to pass someone is an obnoxious beep of your horn, and you are good to go! I still have yet to get over how very different it is here."
Monteverde was soo incredibly beautiful, I have always wanted to see what it was like to walk through clouds, and I finally was able to! We hiked up the mountain and were able to look at all different kinds of bugs, plants, and animals, we even saw a spider monkey! However, it is called a rainforest for a reason, about halfway up the mountain it started raining and by the time we made it to the top everyone was drenched!! After we ate a quick and very wet lunch on the top of the mountain, we hiked back down and had a lecture. Afterwards I was able to begin my shopping for everyone at home! After that we went to our hotel to eat dinner, and afterwards we were able go to "calle ocho" which is a bar/live music club in the town of Santa Elena. In the morning we went to a different rain forest where we did our first field lab. Each of us got into groups and, after observing in the rainforest for about an hour, had to come up with some kind of hypothesis. We ended up observing how the leaf liter depbth influenced the number of seedlings in a given area, and a lab report on it is due sometime this coming week! cant waitt!! that is all for now, miss you all tonnss!!
