Carara National Park

Hello everyone! yesterday was our first day of data collection, we drove to carara national park and are staying in a near by hotel, which was SUPPOSE to have wireless internet..but suprise suprise...does not. Instead they have one computer that looks to be about 10 years old, and is very very slow..so my next few posts are going to have to be short. Data collection requires us to get up at 5.00AM every morning and go into the rainforest to measure the sound that is emitted from the highway )thats what I did yesterday) The other gruop listens and looks for birds, and writes down how many, and what species they are..our professor does most of the identifying of species, then the last person has to sit near the road and count how many cars go by for a whole hour..that was my job today..NOT the most exciting..but oh wel! We do this twice a day, and after each collection of data we have to put the information collected into excel. Then when we get back, we have to write a directed research paper over it, i want to get a head start and begin today though. It especially hard being away from home for this last week becasue I know my ENTIRE family is all in from out of town. I wish so bad I could be there with all of you..but just know I am thinking of you always. Dont have too much fun without me, miss you all and love you so much!

  1. Wow! Counting cars? Doesn't sound too exciting! But I'm sure the many once-in-a-lifetime experiences you have encountered make up for that! YOU?? ALYSON SLIMAN?? GETTING A HEAD START?? Sounds just like you! Enjoy your last 2 weeks or so. See you soon!

  2. ok gurl-

number one: i hope it was sunny out while you were counting cars so you could at least get a tan!
number two: you are SO lucky you are not home today. We (meaning mom and I) did YARD WORK! it was terrible..i mean weeding and using the chain saw to cut the bushes down. my arms kill!
number three: mom and i were thinking that if you were even here we would have known where you would be. not outside helping us with the weeding but right about now is your NAP TIME. so you would be in your cozy oversized bed getting your beauty rest.
number four: mom started going delusional today. i think she really misses you a lot. while we were outside weeding she started screaming "alyson! alyson! come out and help us!" (CRAZY WOMAN!!!!!!)
number five: life isnt the same here without you. day after day i get stuck hanging out with Jess (booo). notice I did not say sarah because she is usually doing "sarahs" errands (you know- going to the mall and starbucks)
number six: while i was weeding today i was thinking of how fun its going to be when we get to go pick you up from the airport...cant wait!
number seven: come home soon. i miss you.

    love always dwanny!

  6. Soo how many cars did you end up counting?? And to comment on fran's comment...my errands are more like going into the football hall of fame and slaving away my life there everyday. I wish I could stay home and do yardwork...seriously...better than being at work! Miss you so much. Wish you were here.
